
To further its mission, the S&R Foundation currently makes two awards – The S&R Washington Award and the S&R Ueno Award – and works in partnership with other nonprofit organizations to further the talents of young artists and scientists
This award goes to talented young artists in the fields of fine arts, music, drama, dance, photography, and film. The award is especially intended to encourage individuals who contribute to U.S. – Japanese understanding.
Each winner will be awarded the cash prize of $5,000. In addition, the Awards Committee may designate a Grand Prize winner who receives an additional $5,000 and will be eligible for a Foundation sponsored event showcasing the winner’s talents, such as a concert hall debut, gallery showing, or screening (depending on the artist’s medium and career goals).
Previous showcases supported by the Foundation have included debuts at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, the Terrace Theater at the Kennedy Center, and recitals with the Washington Conservatory of Music, among others.
Applications for the S&R Washington Award must be postmarked by October 1 of each year. A report should be sent to the Foundation at the end of the grant year describing how the award helped to advance the winner’s career.
Eligibility Requirements:
Entries must be submitted in writing, addressed to the S&R Washington Award Committee and postmarked by October 1 of each year. All entries must include the following at the time of submission:
Incomplete entries will not be considered.
The S&R Washington Award Committee will not return entry materials nor assume responsibility for material submitted.
