This award goes to talented young artists in the fields of fine arts, music, drama, dance, photography and film. The award is especially intended to encourage individuals who contribute to U.S. - Japanese understanding.
Each winner will be awarded a cash prize of $5,000. In addition, the Awards Committee may designate a First Place winner who will be eligible for a Foundation sponsored event showcasing the winner's talents, such as a concert hall debut, gallery showing, or screening (depending on the artist's medium and career goals).
Previous showcases supported by the Foundation have included two New York City debuts at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall as well as recitals with Washington Conservatory, among others.

This award goes to a young scientist primarily in the field of health care-related sciences such as medical, pharmaceutical and public health care research and is especially intended to encourage individuals who contribute to U.S. - Japanese understanding. The award will be given to the educational or charitable institution at which the research is or will be conducted.
Awards range from $100,000 - $200,000.
